Indeed, the nature of human beings, specially in modern culture, is concerning with present issues and pleasure-seeking and not with history so it is easy for those who are unscrupulous to pull the wool over their eyes. So it is willful charlatans interacting with people who are prone to ignorance or willfully ignorant led by the ignorant in the form of ignorant parents, and community, government and church leaders.
For those who are honest seekers, the truth remains and then there is the choice whether to live by it or not when one knows the truth. That is the mark of a sound intellect and personality bound for MAA KHERU (spiritual victory).
