Indeed, we may say that disease actually begins in the soul or rather by the coming into existence of a soul (an individualized perspective of universal spirit). In spirit there is no disease but upon seeing oneself as an individual then all manner of diseases can ensue depending on the nature and level of individualized self-awareness then expressing in the grosser aspects of human existence, the unconscious and subconscious levels of mind and physical body.
Temple if Isis and Serapis
It is interesting to note that on the Greek island of Delos there was an ancient Egyptian temple dedicated to Serapis (the Greek name of the ancient Egyptian god Asar-Hapi) and at this location there was practiced psychological counseling or what would be today called psychotherapy. It is interesting to note that in the temple of Asar in Egypt the process of spiritual evolution is essentially a psychological journey from individuality and egoism to recognition of ultimate divinity; and we may understand that that state called “akhu” is the healthiest state of being. And this is one of the reasons why the ancient Egyptian temple was known as Per-ankh or “house of life.”
