Another important point of the story of the King and Young Man is the issue of a test.The test the young man was put through serve the purpose of allowing the practitioner to see where there is weakness and what needs to be worked on as well as what has been attained. It is like the issue of relativity. If you are moving in one direction it is only relative to other things. If you have nothing to measure against you can become deluded, thinking you are moving well in comparison to ordinary people, when in reality you are not moving in comparison to sages; but when an adversity comes along that tests your attainment and then the real strength of the metal is determined. This is the service that the world provides. The sage is the lucidity of the world and the wayward soul gets the lashing from the world if it cannot listen and heed the worlds of wisdom.
