Temple of Aset Course Lesson 1
SUMMARIZE THE PLOT OF THE ASARIAN RESURRECTION MYTH:
This spiritual myth has several characters but the main ones are, Asar (representing Soul), Aset (representing Intuitional wisdom), Set (uncontrolled egoism), Nebehet (physical attributes of nature) and Heru (spiritual aspiration). Others characters include, Anpu (discriminative intellect to know real from unreal) and Sebek (strength, endurance). Asar and Aset were beloved by the country and everywhere they traveled they brought knowledge, culture and peace around the world. When they returned the people rejoiced. But Set was not happy Asar as he was very jealous of him. Asar became intoxicated and committed an unrighteous act by sleeping with Set’s wife Nebehet and had a child with her Anpu. Set became very angry and devised a plan to kill him. He gained his measurements and had an elaborate coffin made once Asar was in it he nailed it shut and sent him down the Nile River. It became lodged into a tree where it grew and emitted a beautiful sweet aroma. The King of Syria liked it so much he had it cut down and made it into a pillar for his palace. Aset travelled all over looking for Asar and then found out he was in the palace. She became a nurse for the King’s son where she would place him in the fire to burn off his mortality. The queen found out about this and was upset so she did not completely burn it off. Aset asked the King for the pillar which contained Asar and the King had much respect for Aset and granted her wish. Aset took Asar back to Kemet and hid in the papyrus reeds then fanned her wings to resurrect him. She turned her body into a kite and lay on him and the child Heru was conceived. Set found Aset and Asar and in a fit of rage he cut up Asar’s body into 14 pieces and strew them about the country. Aset, Nebehet, Anpu and Sebek searched and found all of the pieces and again resurrected Asar where he now resides as the King of the Netherworld (Sokar).
As Heru grew Asar asked him to avenge his death and do battle with Set so he would be the rightful heir to the throne. They battled for many years each as strong as the other until Heru realized he encompassed all including Set, represented by the Ur Uadjit, or winged sun disk. Set was now sublimated and became an ally for Ra.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN TAKE AWAYS FROM THE ASRIAN MYTH, THE IMPORTANT TEACHINGS TO REMEMBER?
In this Nefer myth we learn the path upon which our soul has traversed. It is not about ancient people who lived long ago, but our journey today and our past lives. This relates to Asar having relations with Nebehet (physical realm). Here is our egoism encasing us in our tomb, our physical embodiment. Our soul (Asar) has been searching for many lifetimes to be re-membered and it is not until Aset (intuitional wisdom) with her relentless search is realized and experienced that she may resurrect Asar and birth our spiritual aspiration (Heru). We begin to smell that sweet aroma of Asar, through the wisdom of Aset and allow Heru to do battle with our Setian aspect, our egoism. This is not an easy task but through the guidance of authentic spiritual preceptors and teachers and Khnumt Nefer (good association) we have the capacity to have the same victory as Aset and Heru.
BASED ON THE VIDEO LECTURE, READINGS AND YOUR CURRENT UNDERSTANDING AT THIS TIME,
A) WHAT HAVE YOU DISCOVERED SO FOR ABOUT WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE ABOUT THE ROLE OF ASET IN THAT EPIC TEACHING OF THE ASARIAN RESURRECTION?
I have discovered there would be NO resurrection of Asar without Aset. She is of utmost importance as it is she who creates and begins the search, she who aligns herself with others to recover the soul, she who is relentless, full of wisdom and who births our spiritual aspiration so we may attain true peace, abiding happiness and enlightenment.
B) WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF HER CHARACTER, HER PERSONALITY?
Aset embodies the essential qualities we all need to achieve the goal of every human life which is enlightenment. She is loyal, full of wisdom not just of the worldly realm but of the spiritual realms, she uses her intellect to revive us and allows us to do battle everyday with our egoism, she is compassionate, loving and truthful.
