In ancient times before you enter the temple one must wash themselves. You must be physically clean as well. You could not eat meat, have sex and no worldly possessions. This is also where the Christians got the concept of baptism. I see how the Christian concept of baptism relates to the cleansing before you come into the temple. The cleansing of the baptism it’s supposed to be symbolic of making one spiritually clean. Once again, Christianity takes the responsibility off of the person and place is it on their God.
