Phoenix Hetep MAAT

Lesson 25 Reading Assignment (pgs. 169-178)
Pg. 169- Sdjm means heeding the teaching.
Pg. 171- After practicing for many years and not becoming enlightened, the recourse an aspirant should take is:
– Repeated effort
o Diligence and consistency in the practice of the teachings and the disciplines enjoined by the teachings.
– Dispassion
o A gradual freedom achieved when the mind becomes released from the mood swings caused by desire, hatred etc. due to ignorance about the world, as well as a passionate desire to fulfill desire through the world of time and space.
– Devotion to the Divine
o Allows the depth of the teaching to be revealed.
o Devotional exercises and rituals allow the intellectual teaching to be experienced as well as thought.
o Divine Grace- Practicing devotion to God has the effect of turning the mind towards the Divine and this leads to purity of feeling and thinking. It is a worship of the Divinity within oneself.
When Divine Grace dawns the aspirant ¬gains spiritual strength and increasing desire to study and practice the teaching as well as increasing pleasure and fulfillment through the practice and increasing dispassion about the worldly desires.
Pg. 173- When does maturity to succeed in the teaching occur?
– When there is sufficient frustration with the pursuit of worldly desires.
o If the dispassion is based on ignorance (lack of spiritual teaching) then it will be short lived. Dispassion will only be experienced for a short time and then one will go back to worldly pursuits.
Pg. 175- The desire for worldly attainments should be replaced with the desire for Spiritual attainments.
Pg. 177- Those who want to practice salad bar religion or seek the advice of oracles or create their own independent classes should do so on their own.
How should an aspirant think about their spiritual path when they encounter failure to meet the instructions of the teaching or they fail to execute their own desired level of practice?
– When an aspirant encounter the failures mentioned they should be diligent and persistent with the studies no matter how many times this experience happens.
A repeated effort towards purifying the ego, ignorance, and aryu by living according to the disciplines, not according to the worldly entanglements (let them go).
Continue to build resilience and daily consistency towards Devotional Worships as well as Devotion to the Divine. This is accomplished by living Maat (Righteously), an aspirant’s Will Power will continue to grow resulting in purification of one’s thoughts, words, and deeds.
