Indeed, this format is the easiest way to start practicing meditation. The vibrations of the chant, its rhythm, its meaning, when practiced repeatedly, with feeling and understanding, occupy the thinking mind and allows the process of concentration to begin. In addition to that a visualization as well as breath work can be introduced. After some time the practice leads to concentration and levels wherein these techniques can be relaxed in favor of an elevated experience beyond cognitive function and ego awareness. At those levels the higher aspects of meditation are discovered and the higher functions of mind and the deeper nature of the unconscious are opened up as precursors to the higher movement of self-discovery.
